Technology Crops - Soil to Oil Crop Production

PRESSING CAPABILITIES

At our processing facility located in Prince Edward Island, Canada, we have the ability to do both large scale mechanical pressing of specialty oil seeds as well as the ability to do small scale cold pressing. Our mechanical pressing facility uses a combination of extrusion and dual pressing technology to effectively extract high quality oil from specialty oil seeds at rate of approximately 24 tons per day.

Our cold pressing operation uses a combination of six twin presses to produce at low temperatures a cold pressed high quality oil at a rate of approximately 2.5 tons per day. For both pressing operations the only heat used in the process is that generated by the internal friction created during the pressing operation.

Our facility also has the ability to decanter centrifuge or filter the crude oil generated during either pressing operation to remove solid particles.

The meal generated during the pressing operation is cooled to room temperature and can be purchased in bulk or in totes. All oils and meal produced are 100% solvent free since no hexane or other solvents are used in any stage of our pressing process.

REFINING CAPABILITIES

At our processing facility located in Prince Edward Island, Canada we have a highly flexible, stainless steel, batch refinery.

With the ability to refine batches of oil as small as 3300lbs (1500kg) and adjust and regulate temperature, vacuum, moisture, absorbents, and steam at individual stages in the refining process our refinery has the ability to effectively and efficiently refine any type of oil to highest standards.

By either chemical or physical means we can produce refined, bleached, deodorized, and winterized oil. With the flexibility of a batch refinery all stages of the refining process can be completed in any combination or individually.

Exposure to oxygen during the refining process is minimized by the used of nitrogen capping of vessels or the use of vacuum systems to ensure the quality of the oil is maintained from start to finish.

PACKAGING

Prior to packaging all oils go through a final stage of filtering to ensure oil is of the highest possible quality prior to being packaged.

Our packaging equipment has the flexibility to package in all common types of packaging materials from pails, to drums, to IBC’s. Our team has the ability to source any non‐standard packaging material required and will work with our customers to ensure we can source the most effective and economical packaging materials to ensure the end cost to our customer is the lowest possible.

Packaged oil is given a unique identification number for quality control and nitrogen capped to ensure oil is maintained at its highest quality possible.

ANALYTICAL LAB

Our analytical lab is dedicated to analyzing our oil throughout the refining process to ensure that our oils are refined to highest quality standards the first time.

As well our analytical lab has the ability to produce a complete Certification of Analysis for all finished oil.

A thorough database, finished oil samples, and processing records are maintained on every batch to ensure our customers receive a quality assured product.

Our laboratory technicians are highly qualified and have the resources to perform a complete analysis of any oil.

These resources include Gas Chromotography, Spectrophotometry, Lipid Extraction, Karl Fischer Titration, Centrifugation, NIR, and Lovibond.

They have the ability to analyze OSI, Sapponification Value, Acid Value, Free Fatty Acids, Specific Gravity, Viscosity, Iodine Value, Peroxide Value, Phosphorous, and Refractive Index.

PILOT PLANT

At our facility in Prince Edward Island, Canada we have an outstanding pilot scale operation.

The pilot plant gives us the ability to press small quantities of specialty oil seeds in a consistent and controlled manner.

Our pilot operation then has the ability to filter, centrifuge, neutralize, water wash, bleach, and winterize and type of oil.

We are also in the design stages of having the ability to perform pilot scale deodorization and implementation will occur in 2012.

The extensive abilities of our pilot scale facility allow our highly qualified personnel to first perform pilot scale trials on high value speciality oils prior to commencing full scale commercial production.

This process ensures we have the ability to minimize waste and maximize the production of our specialty oils.
